preparing for your stay

Keep It Simple

Bring only what you need. The packing list below provides some suggestions to make your stay more comfortable.

time for a digital detox

We invite you to keep your electronic devices to a minimum.  We don’t have Wifi and cell connections may be limited.

Everything we do and offer is grounded in nature.  You’ll forget you even have a phone, or a watch.

What to Bring

Here’s a helpful list of things to consider bringing along during your stay at Water & Woods.

The Unplugged Toolkit

It may be helpful to bring printed maps or download your directions offline, as the property has limited cell coverage.

We don’t have TVs or Wi-Fi here. A favorite easy-reading novel, guidebooks about nature, a light magazine – something to enjoy.

Consider bringing a standalone camera for great landscape shots and close-up nature images without being tempted by a smartphone screen.

The wildlife here is amazing and you’ll want to see the rare bird taking flight across the lake.  Binoculars are a great addition.

Clothing

Hiking boots for the trails and water shoes for the wetlands.

Pack a swimsuit or any clothes you feel comfortable getting wet for swimming and kayaking.  A rashguard shirt can also be helpful.

It can cool off in the evening and the mosquito hour can be thick. We recommend a long-sleeved button up shirt, like a flannel.  We also recommend a pair of long socks to prevent ticks.

A wide-brimmed hat will keep the sun off your face in the meadow and keep the flies from buzzing around your head on a woodland hike.  We have loaner hats if you forget one.

Trail & Water Essentials

Please bring non-toxic bug spray and tick repellent.

Or headlamp for night walks and night hikes.

We ask all guests to use only reef-safe sunscreen in order to protect the natural wetlands.  We have extra on hand if you need some.

We have simple, one-size-fits-most life vests on hand, if you have a favorite, we recommend you bring yours.

Personal Items

Bring your preferred soap, shampoo, and personal hygiene items for your stay in the cabins; we have spare backups if your forget yours.

For cabin stays, We provide coffee, tea and sugar.  Cabins are equipped with mini fridges, feel free to bring any special favorites.
